Take a closer look at University of York
The University of York sits in the southeast of York, England, and spreads across approximately 500 acres. It has two main campuses: Campus East and Campus West. King's Manor, where History and Archaeology courses are taught, is approximately 3 km from these two campuses. Campus West is the main campus, and it is home to the historic Heslington Hall, built in the late 1500s. There you will find the Faculties of Biology, Psychology, Physics, Electronic Engineering, Chemistry, and Music. Campus West also houses the Hull York Medical School, which is jointly run with the University of Hull.
Campus East is within walking distance of Campus West, and it is the newer of the two, with more modern buildings. It is home to the Faculties of Law, Business, Computer Science, and Theatre, Film and Television. Campus West features historic structures such as Heslington Hall, along with an artificial lake, walking paths, bridges, and an observatory. Campus East, by contrast, is a newer campus with more contemporary buildings.
The University of York is approximately 20 minutes by bus from the city center. The university encourages students to cycle and walk, and regular bus and train services are also available. Between the two campuses you will generally travel on foot or by bicycle. More than 60 sports clubs are on offer. Both campuses have athletic facilities where you can pursue sporting activities, under the names York Sport Centre and York Sport Village. These facilities include approximately 17 acres of grass sports fields, 2 swimming pools, an Olympic-sized velodrome, and numerous fitness centers.
For undergraduate and postgraduate students, a variety of dormitory options are available on campus, designed with all student needs in mind. Alongside the many cafes, bars, and restaurants on campus, two supermarkets are open for student use. Beyond these, more than 200 student societies are open to you during your academic career. They include drama and performing arts societies, community volunteering groups, and an astronomy society. Clubs representing international students' home countries are also among them, to name just a few.
