The institution ran as Lanchester Polytechnic from 1970 to 1987, and as Coventry Polytechnic from 1987 to 1992. The Further and Higher Education Act 1992 then raised it to university status, and it was renamed Coventry University. It is one of the fastest-growing universities in the United Kingdom, with campuses mainly in Coventry and also in London and Scarborough.
Most of the university's work takes place on the Coventry city center campus. Business and management programs are taught on the campus in central London. Coventry University also runs subsidiary higher education institutions known as 'CU Coventry', 'CU Scarborough', and 'CU London'. It is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, University Alliance, Universities UK, and the European University Association. Today it provides higher education to more than 38,000 students.

How to get into Coventry University
If you are an international student applying to Coventry University from Turkey with a high school diploma, the only route open to you is the preparatory program known as the International Foundation Year (IFY).
To apply to an undergraduate program at Coventry University as an international student, you must meet the following requirements.
- International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma (Diploma Score: 30)
or - SAT/ACT Score + at least two Advanced Placement (AP) courses with a score of 3.0
or - At least 3 A-Level certificates

The university's main campus in Coventry sits in the heart of the city center, next to Coventry Cathedral and the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum. It spreads across 13 hectares. At the very center of the main campus stands a building called "The Hub," home to Coventry University Students' Union and student support services. Other facilities on the main campus include Lanchester Library, a sports center, and a health and well-being center. There is also an entrepreneurship center and a dedicated area for restaurants and cafes.
Some departments of the Faculties of Health and Life Sciences, Engineering, Computing and Media, Business and Law, and Arts and Humanities teach on this campus. CU Coventry is another subsidiary campus, opened by Coventry University in the same city in 2012. It offers vocational training in areas such as accounting, legal studies, and marketing. CU London, like CU Coventry, is a subsidiary campus opened by Coventry University in London in 2017.
Teaching there covers disciplines including applied biosciences, applied psychology, business management and leadership, computer science, cybersecurity, and electro-mechanical engineering. CU Scarborough, opened by Coventry University in 2016 in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, hosts teaching in certain law, science, and engineering programs. Coventry University London Campus was launched in 2010 to serve international students coming to the university from other countries, given London's international character.
It operates on Middlesex Street in London and offers a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Coventry University is one of the largest universities in the United Kingdom. It spans three cities — Coventry, London, and Scarborough — and five distinct campuses. Across the five campuses there are 18 student residences in total, along with private accommodation options where students can live. Many student societies and clubs are also active within the university.
