Take a closer look at Shanghai Jiao Tong University
The university's former main campus was in Xujiahui, in the Xuhui District of Shanghai, a Catholic area that is home to several educational institutions. The current main campus is in the Minhang District, on the outskirts of metropolitan Shanghai. Founded in 1987, this younger campus was once farmland. To its south lies Zizhu Science Park. It holds research and development centers for high-tech companies such as Intel, ST Microelectronics, Microsoft, SanDisk and others. Most of the university's administrative and academic structure sits at the main campus today, along with most of its undergraduate and graduate students.
The university ranks 4th among Chinese universities for the number of international students. All of the institution's campuses are designed and built to meet student needs. The campuses have apartments where international students can stay. Rooms are usually single or double occupancy. All rooms come with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi and basic furniture. The bed size is 120cm x 200cm, and you are required to bring your own bedding.
The Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) Library began in 1896 as a small reading room, built when Nanyang Public School was established. Today it is one of the most respected university libraries in China. You can use it both for research and for study. With rich resources and up-to-date facilities, the library now runs an open, integrated service system that supports and encourages research across all disciplines.
Student associations are an important part of SJTU's campus culture, and they offer a wide variety of unique and popular activities. There are currently 168 student associations, grouped into five main categories. Their total membership has reached 17,000 students, 8,000 of whom are active members.
