Take a closer look at Peking University
Originally located in Beijing's city center, northeast of the Forbidden City, Peking University relocated to its current campus in 1952 and now operates in Haidian, in the northwestern part of the capital. The campus is situated on the former grounds of Qing Dynasty imperial gardens and retains its historic character, featuring homes, gardens, pagodas, and a number of significant historical buildings constructed in the traditional Chinese architectural style. Beyond the university's main campus, the Peking University Health Sciences Center on Xueyuan Road — home to some of the country's most distinguished colleges — offers an excellent environment for faculty, researchers, and students. The university's School of Sciences, School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science, School of Humanities, School of Social Sciences, and School of Economics and Management are located on the main campus, while the Shenzhen Graduate School, which hosts graduate-level academic programs, is situated at the university's Shenzhen Campus, which opened in 2001.
Located just 30 minutes from central Beijing, the university campus covers 274 hectares — large enough to be considered a small city in its own right — and includes restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, parks, a university sports complex, a university library, post offices, a hospital, green spaces, and lakes. Beyond campus life, Peking University is deeply intertwined with the social and cultural life of the capital, where the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Lama Temple, the Temple of Heaven, Jingshan Park, and Beihai Park are among the must-see attractions. In addition, a large number of student organizations and clubs are active within the university.
