Take a closer look at Peking University
Peking University first stood in central Beijing, northeast of the Forbidden City. It moved to its current campus in 1952 and now sits in Haidian, in the northwest of the capital. The campus occupies the former grounds of Qing Dynasty imperial gardens and keeps its historic character. You will see homes, gardens, pagodas, and several significant historical buildings in the traditional Chinese architectural style. Beyond the main campus, the Peking University Health Sciences Center on Xueyuan Road is home to some of the country's most distinguished colleges.
It offers a strong setting for faculty, researchers, and students. The main campus holds the School of Sciences, the School of Humanities, and the School of Social Sciences. The School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science and the School of Economics and Management are there as well. The Shenzhen Graduate School, which hosts graduate-level academic programs, sits at the Shenzhen Campus, which opened in 2001.
The campus lies just 30 minutes from central Beijing and covers 274 hectares, large enough to count as a small city. On it you will find restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, parks, a university sports complex, and a university library. There are also post offices, a hospital, green spaces, and lakes. Beyond campus, Peking University is closely tied to the social and cultural life of the capital. The Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Lama Temple, the Temple of Heaven, Jingshan Park, and Beihai Park are among the must-see attractions.
A large number of student organizations and clubs are also active within the university.
