Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg

Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg is spread across several campuses, each with its own distinct character and facilities. The university's historic center is located in the Altstadt, surrounding its main buildings including the famous Alte Aula (Old Auditorium) and the Alte Universität (Old University), as well as the historic University Library founded in the 14th century. 

This campus is home to the faculties of humanities, theology, social sciences, and law. The Neuenheimer Feld campus, located north of the Neckar River, is the university's largest campus and serves as a major hub for the natural sciences, life sciences, medicine, and engineering.

This campus includes state-of-the-art research institutes, laboratories, conference halls, and the Heidelberg University Hospital, which is internationally renowned for medical excellence. Another important campus is Bergheim, located to the west of the Altstadt, which is home to the faculties of economics and social sciences.

With a student body representing more than 130 nationalities, the university is home to a large number of student organizations, including political, cultural, academic, and recreational groups. Among the most prominent is the Studierendenrat (StuRa), the official student council responsible for representing student interests and organizing campus-wide events.

Other popular organizations include theater groups, international student associations, debate societies, music groups, and various student-run publications that reflect Heidelberg's vibrant cultural and intellectual community. 

Traditions and events play an important role in shaping Heidelberg's unique student culture. The university celebrates notable annual events such as the “Sommerfest” (Summer Festival) — featuring musical performances, food, and cultural exchange — and the “Heidelberger Herbst,” an autumn festival that draws both students and local residents.

In addition, student sports clubs coordinated by the University Sports Centre offer a wide range of athletic opportunities, from soccer and rowing on the Neckar River to hiking and climbing excursions in the nearby Odenwald mountains.
