The Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover, usually called Leibniz University Hannover, is a public research university in the city of Hannover, Germany. It is a member of TU9, an association of the largest and most notable German Institutes of Technology. The university is named after the famous polymath Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. In science and technology it is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher learning in Germany. The university began in 1831 as the Higher Trade School of Hannover.

Since then it has passed through several phases of growth and a number of name changes. In 2006 it was decided to commemorate Leibniz by naming the building after him. That choice recognized his wide contributions to academic subjects, from philosophy to mathematics, and his strong relationship to the city of Hannover.

Leibniz University Hannover has nine faculties in total. They include architecture and landscape sciences, electrical engineering and computer science, mechanical engineering, natural sciences, and law, among others. The university offers a comprehensive selection of undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate degree programs. The university has earned a reputation for placing a significant emphasis on research. How to get into Leibniz Universität Hannover

If you are an international student, Leibniz University Hannover offers “Preparation courses ("Vorkurse") and introductory sessions” to help you gain proficiency in German.

If you are an international student applying to an undergraduate program at Leibniz University Hannover, you must meet the admission requirements set out below.

  • Successful completion of 12 years of basic education
  • 4-Year High School Diploma
    • If you hold a high school diploma from a Turkish institution, you must sit the standardized Higher Education Foundations Examination (YKS) administered by OSYM. This documents that you have been assigned a place at a university in Turkey. Your exam results should indicate the name of the university you’ve been assigned to, the faculty, the program, and the type of points.
  • High Grade Point Average

  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
    or
  • European Baccalaureate Diploma
  • If you have a US high school diploma, you must submit it with an overview of subjects and grades from grade 9 to 12 stating your cumulative GPA (unweighted).
    • Please note that direct admission is possible only if you have passed AP exams and achieved specific results.
  • If you have a General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level, Advanced Subsidiary Level, or International Advanced Level), you must submit the official certificate. It must show all of your final AS and A Level results.
    • Please note that predicted grades issued by your school are not accepted.
  • Certificate in German Proficiency
    • Certificate in German proficiency from an internationally recognized proficiency test such as TestDaF, Telc, DSH, Goethe-Zertifikat.
  • Official transcripts of the courses you took throughout your high school education
  • If you don’t qualify for direct admission, your secondary education certificate may qualify you for the Studienkolleg (preparatory course) and the Feststellungsprüfung (university qualification exam).

Leibniz University Hannover is in Hannover, the capital of Lower Saxony in Germany. Hannover is a major center in Northern Germany and is known for its trade fairs, such as the Hannover Fair and CeBIT. The university's main campus is called the Welfengarten and lies in the Nordstadt district, north of the city center. It is a lively, green space.
