How to get into Albert-Ludwigs-Universitaet Freiburg
The University of Freiburg offers a preparatory program called "Studienkolleg" to prepare incoming students for higher education and to help them develop German language proficiency.
In addition, prospective international students wishing to apply to undergraduate programs offered by the University of Freiburg must meet the following admission requirements.
- Completion of 12 years of basic education
- 4-Year High School Diploma
- Strong Grade Point Average
- Having taken the university entrance exam (YKS) administered by OSYM and having been placed at a university offering a 4-year undergraduate degree in Turkey.
or - International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
or - European Baccalaureate (EB) Diploma
or - Advanced Placement (AP)
- The prospective international student must have taken and sat the Advanced Placement courses relevant to the field of the undergraduate program they are applying to.
- For programs taught in English: English Proficiency Certificate
- English Proficiency Certificate obtained through international English proficiency exams such as IELTS or TOEFL
- For programs taught in German: German Language Proficiency Certificate
- German Language Proficiency Certificate obtained through international German proficiency exams such as TestDaF, TELC, or Goethe-Zertifikat
Prospective international students wishing to apply to graduate programs offered by the University of Freiburg must meet the following admission requirements.
- 4-Year Bachelor's Degree
- Strong Grade Point Average
- At least 180 ECTS credits earned during undergraduate study
- GRE/GMAT scores may be required depending on the specific admission requirements of the department applied to.

Since its founding in 1457, the university has grown and evolved alongside the city of Freiburg, becoming fully integrated with it. The university's buildings are clustered in three main areas — the university center adjacent to the historic city center, the institutes district, and the engineering campus — though university-owned buildings can also be found in other parts of the city. The university library, located in the historic city center, is the fourth largest university library in Germany. The institutes district houses the university's natural science faculties. The engineering campus is located in the northwest of the city center, near the small Freiburg airport, and close to the University Medical Center. The university's new library, opened in 2015, is housed in a modern building and holds a portion of the university's collection.
