New York University (NYU) sits in the lively neighborhood of Greenwich Village, in the heart of New York City. The campus blends into the cityscape. Bobst Library, a 12 story building, is the main library, and the Kimmel Center for University Life holds student services and event venues. The Silver Center for Arts and Science houses classrooms and academic departments. Subway lines and bus routes connect the campus to the rest of the city. Nearby stations include West 4th Street Washington Square, which serves the A, C, E, B, D, F and M lines. Astor Place, on the 6 line, is also close.

The Grey Art Gallery is NYU's museum of arts, showing both contemporary and historical art.

With the city around it and diverse historical attractions close by, the campus offers a distinctive setting for learning and campus activities.

Each year you can join more than 300 student clubs, fraternities and sororities, study clubs and sports clubs. At Club Fest, held every Fall and early Spring, you choose the clubs that match your interests and preferences. Clubs tied to a specific faculty or department also let you develop academically. If you are interested in music, you can join an orchestra, choir or ensemble sponsored by NYU Steinhardt. The university has long held its own traditional events on all campuses. Highlights include Welcome Week, which greets incoming freshmen.

Apple Fest, an annual apple-themed event, began on the Heights campus. The Violet Ball is a traditional ball held in Bobst Library. Strawberry Stream, a 35-year-old musical fair, features New York City's tallest strawberry shortcake. At Midnight Breakfast, student affairs staff serve breakfast to students the night before finals. So is famous composer and songwriter Alan Menken, one of the 16 people to win all four EGOT awards: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. NYU has also been associated with many inventions. These include the defibrillator, pacemaker, laser, atomic bomb, wireless microphone, image scanner and television.
