Florida International University has two main campuses — Modesto Maidique and Biscayne Bay — as well as additional centers located at various points throughout Miami. The main campus, Modesto Maidique (MMC), is built on approximately 1,400 acres of the former Tamiami Airport site and is located in downtown Miami. This campus is home to the College of Engineering and Computing, which spans approximately 145,000 square meters, the Motorola Nanofabrication Research Facility, administrative offices, and buildings housing nearly all of the university's departments. In addition, student residence halls and FIU Stadium, the FIU Arena, FIU Baseball Stadium, and fitness centers for student use are also located here. Transportation within and between campuses is provided by the university's shuttle service. The Biscayne Bay campus is built on approximately 800 acres along the oceanfront and is home to some of the university's most popular departments, including Marine Sciences, Journalism, and Media.
Florida International University offers undergraduate and graduate students a range of housing options through 9 residence halls across both campuses. Located within secure campuses and fully equipped to meet every student need, the residence halls offer both single and shared room options. Students staying at the Bayview residential complex on the Biscayne Bay campus enjoy an oceanfront setting with access to a pool and numerous common areas. Beyond their academic lives, students can also join one of many student clubs to develop themselves culturally. Students have the opportunity to join groups such as the International Student Club, Model UN, the Science Club, and the Astronomy Club, making for a richer social academic experience. With access to more than 30 restaurants and cafés on campus, and with the campus's central location providing easy access to many cafés, restaurants, and entertainment venues in the surrounding area, students are well looked after.
