Operating under the names Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College from 1872 to 1896, Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute from 1896 to 1944, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute from 1944 to 1970, the university was elevated to state university status by the state legislature in 1970 and has produced more than 240,000 graduates since its founding. How to get into Virginia Tech (VT)

Virginia Tech offers a preparatory program called the "Intensive English Program (IEP)" to help incoming first-year students develop English language proficiency.

In addition, prospective international students wishing to apply to undergraduate programs at Virginia Tech must meet the following admission requirements.

  • English Language Proficiency Certificate
    • An English proficiency certificate obtained through proficiency exams such as IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, or the Duolingo English Test
  • Personal Statement & Essay

Academic qualifications earned through programs such as GCE A-Level, International Baccalaureate, or Advanced Placement do not suffice for direct admission; however, students enrolled in these programs may request course credit for the relevant coursework.
