How to get into University of Pisa
The University of Pisa offers undergraduate and graduate programs under the names Laurea (Bachelor's) and Laurea Magistrale (Master's). Most of the undergraduate and graduate programs are taught in Italian, but programs taught in English are also available. The university offers preparatory programs that prepare incoming students for higher education and help them develop Italian language proficiency.
If you want to apply to an undergraduate program at the University of Pisa, you must meet the following requirements.
- 4-Year High School Diploma + a combined score of at least 180 points on the TYT & YKS exams
- High GPA
or - International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
or - A-Level Diploma
- Participation in the entrance exam given by the University of Pisa, with a passing score
- For the Faculty of Medicine; a sufficient score on the IMAT (International Medical Admissions Test)
- Official transcripts listing the courses you took and the grades you received throughout your academic career
- English Proficiency Certificate for programs taught in English (a certificate from an internationally recognized exam such as IELTS or TOEFL iBT)
- Italian Proficiency Certificate for programs taught in Italian

The University of Pisa is not a campus university but a city university, with buildings in many different parts of Pisa. Most of them stand in the city center, while a few sit near the outskirts of the city. From downtown Pisa, you can reach most university buildings in a 20-minute walk. The university offers the chance to take part in sports activities at the CUS Centro Universitario Sportivo at very affordable rates. It has 17 libraries in total. Like the university's other buildings, the libraries are spread across almost the whole city of Pisa.
In Pisa, most people get around on foot or by bicycle. CicloPi, for example, is a company that offers bike-sharing services, with rental stations throughout the city. Local and regional bus services also run, and as a student you can use them at discounted rates.
Pisa is famous for the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Pisa Cathedral, and the oldest botanical garden in Europe, founded in 1543. Many other historic structures and landmarks stand in the city as well. Pisa lies in Tuscany, in the heart of the Italian peninsula, close to the shores of the Mediterranean. The University of Pisa is spread across the whole city, so it is intertwined with the social and cultural opportunities Pisa offers. University students are situated close to cinemas such as Multisala Odeon Pisa, Cinema Arsenale, Multisala Isola Verde, and Lanteri Cinema Caffe.
Theaters such as Teatro di Pisa - Teatro Verdi, Teatro Rossi Aperto, Teatro Sant'Andrea, and Teatro Lux are nearby too. All of them sit close to the buildings where the university's academic activities take place. The city hosts numerous festivals, carnivals, and events. These include the Viareggio Carnival each February, the Firenze - Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in May, and the Pistoia Blues Festival in July. The Lucca Summer Festival takes place in July-June, and Lucca Comics and Games in October.
The Centro Sportivo Universitario (CUS) offers students the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sports and fitness classes.
