It was founded in 1303, which makes it one of the oldest universities in history by year of founding. By student population, it is also one of the largest universities in Europe. How to get into Sapienza University of Rome

If you are an international student applying to an undergraduate program at Sapienza University of Rome, you must meet the admission requirements listed below.

  • 12 years of basic education (if you finished high school in 11 years, you must complete a one-year preparatory program called a Foundation Year)
  • An internationally recognized language certificate at a minimum B2 level for English-taught undergraduate or graduate programs in Italy (such as IELTS or TOEFL)
  • The YKS exam, taken with both the TYT and AYT sessions
  • For undergraduate programs such as Medicine, Psychology, Engineering, Economics, and Architecture, sitting the entrance exams organized by the Italian Ministry of Education (MIUR) and reaching the required score
  • Alternatively, the SAT exam for programs such as Business Administration or Economics

If you are an international student applying to a graduate program at Sapienza University of Rome, you must meet the admission requirements listed below.

  • A 4-year bachelor’s degree
  • A strong GPA
  • At least 180 ECTS credits completed during your undergraduate study

Take a closer look at Sapienza University of Rome

The main campus of Sapienza University of Rome, known as “Città universitaria,” is in the heart of Rome. From Termini, the main train station, you can reach it in a five-minute walk. The main entrance is at Piazzale Aldo Moro, and the campus also has several side entrances. Many offices and lecture halls sit on the main campus ("città universitaria"), while other faculties and departments are spread across the city. There are also offices and departments in other parts of the Lazio Region. The university has 11 faculties in total.

They are the Faculty of Architecture, the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Civil and Industrial Engineering, and the Faculty of Economics. Next come the Faculty of Information Engineering, Computer Science and Statistics, the Faculty of Law, and the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences. Then come the Faculties of Dentistry and Medicine, Psychology and Medicine, and Pharmacy and Medicine. Finally, there are the Faculty of Political Science, Sociology and Communication and the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering.

Outside the city of Rome, the university has campuses in Latina and Rieti.

Campus Life

The university campus holds lecture halls, academic and administrative buildings, research laboratories, and classrooms. It also has numerous facilities you can use as a student. The campus has historic buildings and many green spaces, along with canteens, cafeterias, cafes, and restaurants where you can grab a meal. The university library is spread across 48 different buildings. It holds 2.7 million print publications, 300,000 e-books, more than 30,000 electronic journals, and 200 research databases. That makes it the largest university library in Italy.

The library also gives you reading rooms that stay open in the evenings, computers, and cultural activities such as student-led book clubs. Sapienza University offers you a wide range of opportunities to practice sports. They run from soccer and swimming to yoga and fitness, martial arts, archery, tennis, track and field, and team sports. The facilities managed by the SapienzaSport center include the Tor di Quinto complex and the Via Osoppo fields. These hold a 33-meter swimming pool, an athletics track, and five-a-side soccer fields.

Sapienza University of Rome is also home to numerous museums, covering fields ranging from anthropology and geology to art, anatomy, and botany.
