How to get into University of Messina

If you are an international student applying to an undergraduate program at the University of Messina, you must meet the following admission requirements.

  • Completion of 12 years of basic education. If you finished high school in 11 years, you must complete a 1-year Foundation preparatory year.
  • An internationally recognized language certificate at a minimum B2 level, such as IELTS or TOEFL, for English-language undergraduate or postgraduate programs in Italy
  • A national university entrance exam. Both sessions of the exam must be completed.
  • Entrance exams organized by the Italian Ministry of Education (MIUR) for undergraduate departments such as Medicine, Psychology, Engineering, Economics, and Architecture. You must take and pass them.
  • Alternatively, the SAT for departments such as Business Administration and Economics

If you are an international student applying to a postgraduate program at the University of Messina, you must meet the following admission requirements.

  • A 4-year Bachelor's degree
  • A strong GPA
  • At least 180 ECTS credits earned during your undergraduate study
  • An English language proficiency certificate for programs taught in English, from an internationally recognized exam such as IELTS or TOEFL iBT
  • An Italian language proficiency certificate for programs taught in Italian
  • GRE/GMAT scores may be required, depending on the admission requirements of the specific program.

The University of Messina has a multi-campus structure. Its faculties and departments are spread across four main sites in the city. The central campus, “Polo Centrale,” sits in the heart of Messina, and its historic buildings blend seamlessly with the city's urban fabric. Here you will find the Rectorate, the main administrative offices, and departments such as Law, Economics, and Political Science. The “Policlinico G. Martino” campus holds the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery inside the university hospital complex.

Its medical facilities are modern and integrated with the university hospital. The “Polo Annunziata” campus, further from the city centre, is home to the Faculties of Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, and Humanities. The “Polo Papardo” campus overlooks the Strait of Messina and houses the Faculties of Science and Engineering, a unique backdrop for academic study. A free shuttle bus run by the university connects the campuses, so students and staff can move between them easily.
