Technische Universität Dresden

The main campus of Technische Universität Dresden is located in the southern part of Dresden, particularly in the Südvorstadt district. Spread across a large urban area, the main campus features a mix of historic and modern buildings. 

This central campus houses most of TU Dresden's faculties, including engineering, natural sciences, computer science, and humanities. The campus is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories, lecture halls, libraries, and student facilities.

Notable buildings include the modern Barkhausen Building for electrical engineering and information technology, the Andreas-Pfitzmann-Bau for computer science, and the renovated Auditorium Center (Hörsaalzentrum).

Easily accessible by public transportation, the campus is connected to Dresden's cultural and economic centers. The Carl Gustav Carus Faculty of Medicine is located near the Dresden University Hospital in the Johannstadt district and is a leading center for medical education and biomedical research in Germany. 

Other facilities include the Institute of Waste Management and Circular Economy in Tharandt, affiliated with the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), an important partner in energy and health research. TU Dresden's participation in the “Dresden-concept” initiative further enhances the campus network by fostering collaboration with regional research institutions such as the Max Planck, Fraunhofer, and Leibniz institutes.

With more than 100 student organizations and initiatives, students can participate in activities ranging from political and social activism to arts, science, and international exchange. Groups such as the Central Student Council Studentenrat (StuRa) represent student interests and organize events, while international associations like AIESEC and IAESTE promote global student mobility and cultural exchange. 

TU Dresden also supports various faculty-specific student councils (Fachschaftsräte) that help organize academic and social events within departments. Sports and extracurricular activities are an integral part of student life.

The university's sports program, operated by the Dresden University Sports Center (USZ), offers more than 600 courses in over 100 sports, ranging from popular activities like volleyball, soccer, and swimming to unique options such as climbing, archery, and fencing.

TU Dresden also hosts a variety of campus-wide events and long-standing traditions. One of the most anticipated is the “UNI AIR” open-air music festival organized by students every summer, along with Campusfest, which features live music, food stalls, and games.

Other popular events include the annual Ersti-Woche (Freshers' Week), which welcomes new students with orientation activities and social gatherings.
