Technische Universität Dresden

The main campus of Technische Universität Dresden lies in the southern part of Dresden, mainly in the Südvorstadt district. It spreads across a large urban area and mixes historic and modern buildings. 

This central campus houses most of TU Dresden's faculties, including engineering, natural sciences, computer science, and humanities. The campus is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories, lecture halls, libraries, and student facilities.

Notable buildings include the modern Barkhausen Building for electrical engineering and information technology, and the Andreas-Pfitzmann-Bau for computer science. Another is the renovated Auditorium Center (Hörsaalzentrum).

Public transport reaches the campus easily and links it to Dresden's cultural and economic centers. The Carl Gustav Carus Faculty of Medicine stands near the Dresden University Hospital in the Johannstadt district. It is a leading center for medical education and biomedical research in Germany. 

Other facilities include the Institute of Waste Management and Circular Economy in Tharandt, which is affiliated with the Faculty of Environmental Sciences. Another is the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), an important partner in energy and health research. TU Dresden's participation in the “Dresden-concept” initiative further enhances the campus network by fostering collaboration with regional research institutions such as the Max Planck, Fraunhofer, and Leibniz institutes.

More than 100 student organizations and initiatives are active here. You can take part in activities ranging from political and social activism to arts, science, and international exchange. Groups such as the Central Student Council Studentenrat (StuRa) represent student interests and organize events. International associations like AIESEC and IAESTE promote global student mobility and cultural exchange. 

TU Dresden also supports various faculty-specific student councils (Fachschaftsräte), which help organize academic and social events within departments. Sports and extracurricular activities are a core part of student life.

The university's sports program, run by the Dresden University Sports Center (USZ), offers more than 600 courses in over 100 sports. These range from popular activities like volleyball, soccer, and swimming to unusual options such as climbing, archery, and fencing.

TU Dresden also hosts a range of campus-wide events and long-standing traditions. One of the most anticipated is the “UNI AIR” open-air music festival, which students organize every summer. Campusfest sits alongside it, with live music, food stalls, and games.

Other popular events include the annual Ersti-Woche (Freshers' Week), which welcomes new students with orientation activities and social gatherings.
