Seoul National University is a prestigious institution with a lively intellectual community, where students and scholars work together to build a brighter future. The university was founded in 1946 and is South Korea's most prestigious school. As a national public research institution, SNU is part of Washington University's McDonnell International Scholars Academy in St. Louis. 

The university keeps partnerships with more than 700 academic institutions across 40 countries, the World Bank, and the University of Pennsylvania. It is home to the largest university library in Korea, and it ranked 29th in the QS Asia University Rankings 2022. The university offers a variety of academic and research support programs, as well as Korean language programs for international students.

The university offers more than 80 undergraduate degree programs across its 16 colleges. For graduate and doctoral study, there is an institute with 99 programs across five fields of study.

How to get into Seoul National University

If you are applying for undergraduate admission to Seoul National University, you are expected to meet the following requirements:

  • Online application
  • High school diploma with strong academic record
  • Transcript documents
  • Language proficiency documents (for Korean: TOPIK score reports at level 3 or above, or level 4 or above from language centers at Korean universities)
  • Letters of recommendation (2)
  • Application fee (70,000 KRW)

If you are applying for graduate admission to Seoul National University, you are expected to meet the following requirements:

The Korean Language Education Center at Seoul National University runs a ten-week language training program for foreigners and overseas students. If you are admitted to the Korean Language Program, you may apply for a General Short-Term Visa (C-3) or a General Student Visa (D-4).

Some programs require SAT/ACT scores.

Campus

Take a closer look at Seoul National University

The university is in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, and has four campuses: Gwanak Campus, Yeongeon Campus, Pyeongchang Campus, and Siheung Campus. The Gwanak campus holds more than 200 buildings. You can reach the campuses by subway and bus. Free campus shuttle services are also available. Shuttle buses with wheelchair lifts run as well, for students with disabilities. These buses are operated specifically to give better mobility to students with physical and/or visual impairments. 

Campus Life

The university campuses hold a variety of workshops, cafes and restaurants, shopping stores, and recreational areas where you can socialize, relax, and learn. Classrooms and laboratories are equipped with modern technology. International students from around the world create a cosmopolitan environment, and the university's student clubs and events make for an enjoyable study-abroad experience.

Seoul National University Library, on the university campus, is one of the country's most prestigious libraries, with a main library and 9 branch libraries. Its collection includes 5.2 million volumes, more than 260,000 academic journals and e-journals, and more than 230,000 non-book materials. Free library shuttle services are available if you stay late into the evening.

The SNU Center for Campus Life and Culture provides advisory services to international students. In their early years, international students are more likely to meet various challenges than other students. The center offers various programs so these students receive adequate mental and emotional support while adjusting to university life.
