Korea University is in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, and ranks among the top 100 universities in the world. It opened in 1905 as Bosung College and took its current name in 1945. Today it is a private research university and one of the three "SKY" schools. That term names the three most prestigious universities in South Korea; the other two are Seoul National University and Yonsei University.
The university enrolls more than 20,000 undergraduate students and over 10,000 graduate students. It was the first educational institution in Korea to offer academic programs in disciplines such as law, economics, and journalism. Its School of Law is the most prominent law school in the country. As one of South Korea's most prestigious schools, the university also keeps auxiliary educational facilities. These include the Institute of Foreign Language Studies, the Institute of Continuing Education, the International Education Institute, and the Center for Teaching and Learning.
Korea University is home to approximately 38,000 students from across the country and from every corner of the globe. The school has a fine teaching hospital, the Korea University Medical Center. The university's main campus is in the city of Seoul. It is divided into four sub-sections: Science and Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Medicine and Life Sciences, and Jeongneung. Within a five-minute walk from campus, you will find numerous restaurants, bars, shops, and even a famous Buddhist temple. There are also student-friendly cafes on campus where you can grab a meal. From the main campus buildings, you can reach the other campus, Sejong, within a 20-minute walk.
