The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) is a national research university located in South Korea. As South Korea's first research-focused science and engineering institution, KAIST is regarded as one of the most prestigious universities in the country. Named the most innovative university in the Asia-Pacific region, the school began forming partnerships with international institutions in 2007. Its partner institutions include the Technical University of Denmark, Carnegie Mellon University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Technical University of Berlin, and Technical University of Munich.
Through a research project conducted with faculty and students, the university developed an electric transit system in which vehicles receive power wirelessly through magnetic charging from cables beneath the road. This significant project is an example of how KAIST leads the way in developing new technologies capable of addressing global challenges such as energy consumption and urban traffic congestion.
The university was ranked as the top university in the Republic of Korea on the QS World Rankings' Top 100 Asian Universities list.

The university's main campus is located in the Daedeok science district in the city of Daejeon, 150 kilometers south of Seoul, the capital of South Korea. There is also a separate campus in Seoul that houses the Business School as well as graduate schools. Most classes and research activities take place at the main campus in Daejeon, where most students also reside. The main campus has a total of 29 dormitory buildings. Additionally, off-campus apartments are available for married students.
KAIST campuses feature modern classrooms and workshops, state-of-the-art laboratories, cafes and restaurants where students can socialize, a large library, and student dormitories. All undergraduate and graduate students live in 21 on-campus residential complexes. Students can find food and beverages suited to their preferences — including vegan, diet, and halal options — at eight dining halls on campus. Students can also participate in and organize a wide range of athletic activities at the Lyu Keun-Chul Sports Complex.
The International Academic and Student Services (ISSS) team on campus provides a variety of support to the international community at KAIST, including immigration and settlement services, counseling, language and cultural programs, and events.
