Northumbria University is a public university established in 1992 in Newcastle (Newcastle upon Tyne), in the northeast of England. Its official name is the University of Northumbria at Newcastle. It began in 1877 as Rutherford College of Technology, was renamed Newcastle Polytechnic in 1969, and became a university in 1992. The university teaches and carries out research not only in Newcastle but also in the capital, London, and in Amsterdam. It is a member of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).
It also belongs to Universities UK and the Wallace Group. Today it offers higher education to more than 37,000 students.

How to get into Northumbria University

Northumbria University has two campuses in Newcastle: Newcastle City Campus and Coach Lane Campus. It also has one campus in the capital, London, and one in Amsterdam. Over the past decade the university has invested more than £250 million in its campuses. Newcastle City Campus sits in the heart of the city, a few streets from shopping districts and cultural centers. Classes in the business, law, and design faculties are held at City Campus East, within the campus.
Student Central holds a student advice center and the university library, and the Sutherland building houses the architecture studios. A recently completed Computer and Information Sciences building stands on the campus, together with high-tech laboratories for the Science and Engineering departments. The campus also has a sports center. Coach Lane Campus is 5 kilometers from Newcastle city center and is where the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences teaches. It has a library, a students' union building, and new sports facilities.
This campus is home to students from the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. It also houses the university's Clinical Skills Centre and Sports Centre. Buses run between Newcastle City Campus and Coach Lane Campus every 10 minutes.
Newcastle City Campus sits in the heart of Newcastle, within walking distance of all the city's social and cultural amenities. Coach Lane Campus is 5 kilometers from the city center and can be reached by public transportation. The university's campuses have classrooms, clinics, laboratories, and studios, along with many spaces where you can study or socialize. The university library is one of the best academic libraries in the United Kingdom. Its collection holds about 500,000 print items, more than 900,000 electronic items, and about 85,000 electronic journals.
Catering and retail outlets on the campuses serve both hot and cold food. The university's sports centers give you the chance to take part in virtually any sport and to join classes. A large number of student clubs and societies operate within the university for you to join.
