Originally founded in 1877 under the name Rutherford College of Technology, renamed Newcastle Polytechnic in 1969, and elevated to university status in 1992, Northumbria University conducts educational and research activities not only in Newcastle but also in the capital London and in Amsterdam. How to get into Northumbria University
Northumbria University offers a preparatory program called the International Foundation Programme to prepare new students for higher education and help them develop English language proficiency.

Northumbria University has two campuses in Newcastle (Newcastle City Campus and Coach Lane Campus), one campus in the capital London, and one campus in Amsterdam. Having invested more than £250 million in its campuses over the past decade, Northumbria University's Newcastle City Campus is located in the heart of the city, just a few streets away from shopping districts and cultural centers. Business, law, and design faculty classes are held at City Campus East within the campus. Student Central houses a student advice center and the university library, while the Sutherland building is home to architecture studios. In addition to a recently completed Computer and Information Sciences building and high-tech laboratories for the Science and Engineering departments, the campus also features a sports center. Coach Lane Campus, located just 5 kilometers from Newcastle city center, is where the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences conducts its educational activities; the campus also has a library, a students' union building, and new sports facilities. Coach Lane Campus — which is home to students from the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences — also houses the university's Clinical Skills Centre and Sports Centre. Buses run between Newcastle City Campus and Coach Lane Campus every 10 minutes.
Newcastle City Campus, situated in the heart of Newcastle, is within walking distance of all the city's social and cultural amenities, while Coach Lane Campus — located just 5 kilometers from the city center — can be reached by public transportation. The university's campuses feature classrooms, clinics, laboratories, and studios, as well as numerous spaces where students can study or socialize. The university library, one of the best academic libraries in the United Kingdom, holds a collection of approximately 500,000 print items, more than 900,000 electronic items, and approximately 85,000 electronic journals. Catering and retail outlets on the campuses offer both hot and cold food options. The university's sports centers provide students with the opportunity to participate in virtually any sport and to join classes, while a large number of student clubs and societies operate within the university for students to join.
