Campus

Take a closer look at University of Kent

The University of Kent has campuses in Canterbury, Medway, Brussels, and Paris. The university's main campus in Canterbury is situated north of Canterbury, covering 121 hectares. Located just 3 kilometers from the city center, the Canterbury Campus sits on a parkland area overlooking the city and Canterbury Cathedral, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Consisting of 6 colleges — Darwin, Eliot, Keynes, Rutherford, Turing, and Woolf — the University of Kent provides accommodation for more than 5,000 students on the Canterbury Campus, with the student residences, student houses, and academic buildings all grouped together in the central area of the campus. At the western end of the campus there is also a private student village located just a few minutes' walk from the campus. Six of the university's academic schools, the Templeman Library, the renowned Gulbenkian Arts Centre, and the Mandela Building are all located on the Canterbury Campus. The university's own shuttle bus service, operating under the name UniBus, runs regular trips between the Canterbury Campus and the city center. The Medway Campus, located near the cities of Rochester and Chatham, is divided into two sites — Pembroke and The Historic Dockyard Chatham — which are a 10-minute walk apart from each other. The Medway Campus was originally opened as a result of a partnership formed by the University of Kent, the University of Greenwich, and Canterbury Christ Church University, and all three universities operate on the Medway Campus.

Campus Life

The Canterbury Campus, the university's main campus, features a supermarket, a bookstore, a pharmacy, and laundry facilities. There are numerous cafes and pubs on campus, operated either by the university itself or by the students' union. While Rutherford, one of the university's 6 colleges, has a dining hall available for student use, Darwin is home to the stylish Beagle Restaurant. The university's sports facilities are divided into two areas: a sports center with multipurpose gymnasiums, a fitness room, squash courts, and a climbing wall, and the Sports Pavilion, which offers a variety of indoor and outdoor sports fields and training facilities. The renowned Gulbenkian Arts Centre features a theater and a cinema, as well as a small stage that hosts monthly comedy nights and various shows such as Jazz at Five and the Chortle Student Comedy Awards. Additionally, more than 175 student clubs and organizations are active within the university.
