Although the university's official founding year is recorded as 1992, the Bournemouth Municipal College that forms the basis of today's Bournemouth University was originally established in the early 1900s. Bournemouth University operates across two separate campuses: Talbot Campus and Lansdowne Campus. Located in Fern Barrow on the Poole side of the Bournemouth borough boundary, Talbot Campus is home to the Faculty of Media and Communication, the Faculty of Science and Technology, and the Bournemouth University Business School. Talbot Campus also features the university's sports facilities, the Students' Union Centre, and modern sustainable buildings such as the Fusion Building and Poole Gateway.
The vast majority of undergraduate and postgraduate programs are taught at Talbot Campus, which houses a wide range of lecture theaters, seminar rooms, and specialized facilities such as forensic science and genetics labs, television and music studios, and computer labs. Talbot Campus is just a short bus ride away from Lansdowne Campus, the university's other site.
Located just outside Bournemouth town center, Lansdowne Campus is home to the majority of the university's residential accommodations, as well as undergraduate programs in Health and Social Care and postgraduate programs in Business and Management.
Talbot Campus, the main campus of Bournemouth University, offers study spaces, libraries, cafes, and restaurants available to students. Talbot Campus also has a Medical Centre and a Student Health Centre. The traditional Dylan's Bar & Kitchen and The Student Shop on Talbot Campus are operated by Bournemouth University's award-winning Students' Union. Lansdowne Campus, which houses the majority of the university's residential accommodations, is just a short walk from Bournemouth town center and the beach, and the town center itself has numerous cafes, pubs, shops, and restaurants.
