Dublin City University is a public university founded in 1975 as a national institute of higher education in Dublin, the capital of Ireland. Known as Ireland's university of enterprise, Dublin City University operates across five campuses in Dublin — three academic, one innovation, and one sports campus — and has grown and expanded since its founding to become Ireland's most innovative and market-oriented university.
Breaking away from traditional patterns in the Irish education system, the university has adopted new approaches and offers interdisciplinary education and research opportunities in areas such as technology, engineering, business, communications, the humanities, sciences, and health. How to get into Dublin City University
International students applying to Dublin City University from abroad with a high school diploma may only apply to the preparatory program known as the International Foundation Programme.
That said, prospective students wishing to apply for undergraduate programs offered by Dublin City University must meet the following requirements.
- International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
or - SAT/ACT Score
or - IGCSE or A-Level Diploma
- The GCE A-Level grades generally accepted by Dublin City University are BBB and BCC, though accepted grade ranges vary by program. Dublin City University operates across five campuses: DCU Glasnevin and DCU St Patrick's and DCU All Hallows academic campuses in Drumcondra — both near Glasnevin — along with DCU Alpha, the university's innovation campus, and DCU Sports Campus, also in Glasnevin. The university campuses are conveniently located near Dublin city center and Dublin Airport, and are within 2.5 km of one another — a distance that can be covered on foot in 30 minutes or by bicycle in 10 minutes.
The Glasnevin Campus, the university's main campus, is home to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the National Institute for Cellular Biotechnology, the School of Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health, the School of Psychology, the Health and Wellbeing Centre, the School of Computing, the Faculty of Engineering and Computing, the School of Physics and Electronic Engineering, the DCU Business School, and the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.
The academic activities of the university's other faculties and departments take place at St Patrick's Campus and All Hallows Campus. St Patrick's Campus also houses some of the student residences, sports halls, playing fields, the Institute of Education Research, and the Drumcondra Education Centre, while All Hallows Campus is home to the university's student residences.
Just a 10-minute bus ride from Dublin city center, the university's campuses allow students to enjoy both the social and cultural offerings of city life and the amenities provided on campus. In addition to the cafes, restaurants, theater, conference and concert halls, university sports complex, and other facilities on campus, students have access to the countless cafes, restaurants, museums, art galleries, cinemas, pubs, and shops that Dublin's capital has to offer.
The university's main sports complex and other athletic facilities give students the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sports, while more than 120 student clubs and societies operating within the university bring together enthusiasts of virtually every interest. The student union, together with student clubs and societies, regularly organizes events open to all students, and a variety of festivals and activities are held throughout the year in Dublin and other popular cities across Ireland.
