How to get into Dublin City University

If you are an international student applying from abroad with a high school diploma, you have one option at Dublin City University. It is the preparatory program known as the International Foundation Programme.

That said, if you want to apply for an undergraduate program at Dublin City University, you must meet the following requirements.

  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
    or
  • SAT/ACT Score
    or
  • IGCSE or A-Level Diploma
    • Dublin City University generally accepts GCE A-Level grades of BBB and BCC, though accepted grade ranges vary by program. So once you have decided on a program, review its requirements. You are welcome to contact us to learn which courses the program you are considering requires.
  • English Proficiency Certificate
    • A certificate earned through an English proficiency exam such as IELTS, PTE Academic, CAE/CPE, or TOEFL iBT
  • Official transcripts listing the courses you took throughout high school and the grades you earned

Campus

Take a closer look at Dublin City University

Dublin City University operates across five campuses. Its academic campuses are DCU Glasnevin, and DCU St Patrick's and DCU All Hallows in Drumcondra, both near Glasnevin. Alongside them are DCU Alpha, the university's innovation campus, and DCU Sports Campus, also in Glasnevin. The campuses sit close to Dublin city center and Dublin Airport, and within 2.5 km of one another. You can cover that distance on foot in 30 minutes, or by bicycle in 10.

Glasnevin, the main campus, is home to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the DCU Business School, and the Faculty of Engineering and Computing. It also holds the School of Computing, the School of Physics and Electronic Engineering, and the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. The School of Nursing, Psychotherapy and Community Health and the School of Psychology are based there as well. So are the Health and Wellbeing Centre and the National Institute for Cellular Biotechnology.

The university's other faculties and departments hold their academic activities at St Patrick's Campus and All Hallows Campus. St Patrick's Campus also houses some of the student residences, sports halls, playing fields, the Institute of Education Research, and the Drumcondra Education Centre. All Hallows Campus is home to the university's student residences.

Campus Life

The campuses sit a 10-minute bus ride from Dublin city center. From there you can enjoy the social and cultural life of the city as well as the amenities on campus. On campus you will find cafes, restaurants, a theater, conference and concert halls, the university sports complex, and other facilities. The capital itself adds countless cafes, restaurants, museums, art galleries, cinemas, pubs, and shops. The main sports complex and other athletic facilities let you take part in a wide range of sports.

More than 120 student clubs and societies operate within the university, bringing together enthusiasts of virtually every interest. The student union, together with those clubs and societies, regularly organizes events open to all students. Festivals and activities of many kinds are held through the year in Dublin and other popular cities across Ireland.
