University College Cork, commonly known as UCC, is a constituent university of the National University of Ireland. Located in Cork, the institution was founded in 1845 as one of three Queen's Colleges in Belfast, Cork, and Galway. One of Ireland's most important universities, UCC ranks in the top 1.1% of universities worldwide. 

Set on a 42-acre wooded campus just a 10-minute walk from Cork city center, the university has been named Irish University of the Year by The Sunday Times five times. In 2015, UCC was recognized as the top-performing university by the U-Multirank system, funded by the European Commission.

How to get into University College Cork

Applicants wishing to pursue an undergraduate degree at University College Cork must meet the following requirements:

  • High School Diploma PLUS SAT 1/ACT
  • High School GPA and SAT or ACT scores are considered
  • Applicants are expected to have completed 4 years of English, at least 3 years of Mathematics (4 years recommended), at least 2 years of History/Social Sciences and a language, and at least 2 years of laboratory science (4 years recommended)
  • While not required for all programs, SAT Subject Tests, Honors Courses, Advanced Placement, and Early College Experience courses are taken into consideration where they benefit the applicant
  • When Mathematics is required for a specific degree program, a minimum score of 640 on the SAT Mathematics section, or ACT 28 or AP 3 is required
  • Language proficiency documentation: IELTS 6.5 – TOEFL 90

Applicants wishing to pursue a graduate degree at University College Cork must meet the following requirements:

  • University degree
  • Transcript documents
  • Applicants must hold an honors-level degree (NFQ level 8) with a minimum of 2H2 (Second Class Honours, Grade 2) to be eligible to apply
  • Government-issued photo ID in the form of a passport, birth certificate, or NDLS driver's license

Campus Life

Campus life at the university is extremely colorful and enjoyable. There are cafes and restaurants where students can socialize, shopping centers, student clubs, study lounges, and state-of-the-art workshops and laboratories. University College Cork is also home to more than 100 active societies and 50 different sports clubs where students can connect with others. There are academic, creative, gaming/role-playing, and social communities and clubs, as well as a wide range of field sports, martial arts, water sports, and indoor and outdoor team and individual sports. Students can join these clubs to organize various events or take an active part in them.
