It gained university status in 1966 through a royal charter, but its roots trace back to the Battersea Polytechnic Institute, founded in 1891. How to get into University of Surrey
The University of Surrey runs preparation programs called "International Foundation Year". They prepare students who are about to begin university for higher education and help them develop their English.

The University of Surrey's main campus sits on Stag Hill. It was first built on 30 hectares and grew to 120 hectares as the university's teaching and research expanded. The main campus lies 54 kilometers from the center of London. Regular trains run between London and the campus, and both London and the Stag Hill campus can be reached within a 45-minute train journey. The university's second campus, the recently opened Manor Park, is 1.5 kilometers from the main campus on Stag Hill.
It holds student residences and staff housing, along with a range of buildings for education, research, and sports.
On the main campus at Stag Hill you will find restaurants, cafes, pubs, and the university's own food market, open to students and staff. Stag Hill Campus also has a bookstore where you can get your textbooks, a laundry, a post office, and a supermarket. Sport is highly valued at the University of Surrey, which boasts one of the best sports facilities in the UK. Surrey Sports Park, at Manor Park Campus, has a 50-meter swimming pool, 3 multi-purpose sports halls, and 6 squash courts. It also has a modern fitness center, three indoor soccer fields, outdoor tennis courts, and a climbing center.
The park holds a coffee shop, a pub, and a restaurant as well. The campuses sit among green spaces, forests, and lakes, surrounded by nature. They are not very close to central London, but the train makes the trip between them easy. Many student societies and clubs run within the university, and you can join them.
