Campus

Take a closer look at University of Leicester

The university's oldest building dates back to 1837. While the university's buildings carry traces of history, they are in harmony with contemporary architecture. With its historic buildings and faculties, the university's main campus is located one mile south of the city center, adjacent to Victoria Park, Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth I College. The central building, known as Fielding Johnson Building, houses the university's administrative offices and the Leicester Law School.

Notable facts about the university's buildings and faculties:

  • During World War I, the buildings were used as a military hospital.
  • College House was the childhood home of David and Richard Attenborough.
  • The Adrian Building is the site where Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys discovered genetic fingerprinting in 1984.

Campus Life

University campuses feature cafes and restaurants suited to students' needs, shopping areas, dining halls, dormitories, study rooms, libraries, computer labs, workshops, and more. The dormitories where both international and local students stay are equipped with modern amenities. The university's accommodation is divided into two areas: The Village, a short bus ride from campus, and The City, within walking distance of campus.

The Village is primarily designated for undergraduate students, while The City is more of a dormitory area where graduate students tend to stay. As an alternative, the Students' Union has an accommodation office that can assist students in finding housing. SULETS offers a fair and transparent service to all students, with no agency, registration, or reservation fees to pay.
