The University of Warwick was approved for establishment in 1961 and received its Royal Charter in 1965. It is a public university located outside Coventry, in the West Midlands and Warwickshire area of England.
The university was founded after World War II to advance higher education. In 1978 it took in the institution formerly known as Coventry College of Education. Its grounds now spread across approximately 162 hectares.
The University of Warwick began its academic life in 1964 with only a small group of graduate students. It admitted its first undergraduate class of 450 students in October 1965. The university has since grown to the capacity to educate more than 28,000 students, over 9,000 of them international.
Today the University of Warwick's 29 academic departments and more than 50 research centers and institutes are organized under 3 faculties. These are the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Medicine, and the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Warwick belongs to the Russell Group, which brings together the United Kingdom's most prestigious universities. It also holds membership in many other respected organizations and bodies. These include AACSB, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Association of MBAs, and EQUIS. The University of Warwick offers a preparatory program called the “Pre-Sessional English Programme” to prepare incoming students for higher education and develop their English language proficiency.

The University of Warwick campus sits just outside Coventry and is built on an area of 290 hectares. Warwick also has a campus in Wellesbourne, but the vast majority of its activities take place at the main campus in Coventry. On the campus you will find the National Automotive Innovation Centre. There, new technologies are being developed to reduce humanity's dependence on fossil fuels and lower carbon dioxide emissions. The Mathematical Sciences Building is the most energy-efficient building on campus, and it houses the departments of mathematics, statistics, and computer science.
The newly opened Sports and Wellness Centre aims to make the University of Warwick Campus the most active campus in the United Kingdom. Projects recently completed on campus include the renovation and expansion of the Warwick Arts Centre, the Faculty of Arts, and the Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research Building.
The University of Warwick Campus welcomes students from many countries around the world. At the Graduate Centre, graduate students can find support, work together, and join regular activities and workshops. Outdoor spaces with stunning views give you room to unwind, or to focus and work in quiet.
