Princeton University
Princeton University is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the United States. Founded in 1746 as the College of New Jersey in Elizabeth, it moved to Princeton in 1756 and occupied the now-famous Nassau Hall. Princeton played a brief but significant role in the American Revolution, with Nassau Hall briefly serving as the nation's capitol in 1783. It was officially renamed Princeton University in 1896. Princeton is one of the nine colonial colleges founded before the Revolution and a member of the elite Ivy League. Princeton has an astonishing track record of producing brilliant minds and leaders. Its alumni include US presidents (James Madison and Woodrow Wilson), numerous Supreme Court Justices, Nobel Prize winners, and influential figures across business, arts, and sciences. Princeton is known for its focus on undergraduate education, with small class sizes and an emphasis on independent research. Princeton's unofficial mascot is the tiger, and their orange and black colors were chosen in honor of William III, Prince of Orange, of the House of Nassau.
