Arizona State University (ASU) is a research-oriented public university founded in 1885 in Tempe, Arizona, United States. The institution operated under the names Territorial Normal School (1885–1889), Tempe Normal School of Arizona (1889–1903), Tempe Normal School (1903–1925), Tempe State Teachers College (1925–1929), Arizona State Teachers College (1929–1945), and Arizona State College (1945–1958) before continuing as Arizona State University from 1958 onward. It has grown to become one of the largest public universities in the United States in terms of both campus area and student population. Having produced approximately 600,000 graduates since its founding, Arizona State University operates across 5 campuses — with Tempe Campus as its flagship — and provides higher education opportunities to more than 180,000 students: over 79,000 on its physical campuses and more than 72,000 through its digital university. The university employs more than 5,400 faculty members — including 5 Nobel laureates and 10 Pulitzer Prize-winning faculty — across 17 colleges, offering more than 400 undergraduate and more than 450 graduate programs.

How to get into Arizona State University

Arizona State University offers a preparatory program called the “English Language Program” to prepare incoming students for higher education and to help them develop English language proficiency.

Prospective international students wishing to apply to undergraduate programs offered by Arizona State University must meet the following admission requirements.

One of the largest public universities in the United States, Arizona State University has five campuses in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area: Downtown Phoenix Campus, Polytechnic Campus, Tempe Campus, West Campus, and Lake Havasu City Campus. Tempe Campus, located in downtown Tempe, is situated approximately 13 kilometers east of Phoenix, the state capital of Arizona. Spanning approximately 270 hectares, Tempe Campus is laid out around numerous shops and retail outlets in downtown Tempe and is surrounded by a large botanical garden. West Campus, covering approximately 112 hectares, is located in a suburban area northwest of Phoenix, the Arizona state capital. West Campus is approximately 19 kilometers northwest of downtown Phoenix and approximately 30 kilometers northwest of Tempe Campus. Polytechnic Campus — also known as ASU East — covers approximately 242 hectares and is located in Mesa, in the Maricopa County region of Arizona, approximately 40 kilometers southeast of Tempe Campus and approximately 53 kilometers southeast of downtown Phoenix. The university's professional and technical programs are conducted at Polytechnic Campus. Downtown Phoenix Campus covers approximately 12 hectares and is located in downtown Phoenix, while Lake Havasu City Campus is located approximately 325 kilometers northwest of Tempe.

Campus Life

With five campuses operating across the state of Arizona, four of Arizona State University's campuses are conveniently located close to downtown Phoenix — the state capital — and offer easy access to the social and cultural amenities Phoenix has to offer. The university's largest campus, Tempe Campus, is built around numerous shops, restaurants, and cafes in downtown Tempe and is surrounded by a large botanical garden. Tempe Marketplace, located on the northeast edge of Tempe Campus and offering shopping, dining, and entertainment options, is just one of the many popular spots students frequent. In addition, Tempe Campus is home to a large portion of Arizona State University's sports facilities. West Campus provides students with a wide range of modern amenities, including on-campus student housing, dining facilities, the Sun Devil Fitness Complex, and a swimming pool. Arts, sports, and cultural activities take place year-round across Arizona State University's campuses, and the university is home to more than 1,000 student clubs and organizations.
