Arizona State University

Arizona State University (ASU) is a research-oriented public university founded in 1885 in Tempe, Arizona, in the United States. The university began in 1885 as the Territorial Normal School and kept that name until 1889. It was then Tempe Normal School of Arizona (1889–1903) and Tempe Normal School (1903–1925). Later names were Tempe State Teachers College (1925–1929), Arizona State Teachers College (1929–1945), and Arizona State College (1945–1958). It has continued as Arizona State University since 1958.

Today it is one of the largest public universities in the United States, in both campus area and student population. Since its founding, the university has produced about 600,000 graduates. It operates 5 campuses, with Tempe Campus as its flagship, and provides higher education opportunities to more than 180,000 students. Of these, over 79,000 study on the physical campuses and more than 72,000 through the digital university. The university employs more than 5,400 faculty members across 17 colleges, among them 5 Nobel laureates and 10 Pulitzer Prize-winning faculty.

It offers more than 400 undergraduate and more than 450 graduate programs.

Arizona State University runs a preparatory program called the “English Language Program”. It prepares incoming students for higher education and helps them build English language proficiency.
