Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) is situated in Montgomery, Alabama, in close proximity to the junction of Taylor Road and I-85. The campus has an area of approximately 500 acres, which was selected based on the advantageous soil conditions and its close access to Interstate 85. The selection of this place was determined through a rigorous procedure that entailed evaluating various sites in Montgomery. The history of AUM's campus is closely connected with the endeavors of local and state officials who had a vision of developing higher education in Montgomery. The goal of the project was to offer competitive undergraduate programs, adult education opportunities, and graduate programs in many disciplines. Although it encountered initial legal obstacles related to racial segregation, the initiative advanced by acquiring a property on Bell Street and subsequently constructing the campus.
