Campus

Take a closer look at University of Western Australia

The main campus of the University of Western Australia (UWA) is located in Crawley, a riverside suburb of Perth, the capital of Western Australia.

Spanning 65 hectares along the Swan River, the Crawley campus is renowned for its striking sandstone architecture, lush gardens, and historic buildings such as Winthrop Hall.

This campus serves as the hub for most of UWA's faculties, including Arts, Science, Business, Engineering, and Medicine.

The university is home to major research institutes including the Oceans Institute, the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, and the Energy Centre.

The campus features modern facilities including the Reid Library, the Bayliss Building for molecular sciences, and the Business School complex.

The Albany Centre, located in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, was established in 1999 to provide higher education opportunities for students in rural areas.

It offers undergraduate programs focused on environmental science, marine biology, and regional development.

UWA also maintains a strong research presence through the UWA Oceans Graduate School and the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR), which contributes to global projects such as the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) — the world's largest radio telescope.

The university operates research stations and field sites throughout Western Australia, including the Shenton Park Field Station and Ridgefield Farm, collaborating with industry and government agencies.

Campus Life

UWA is home to more than 160 student-run clubs and societies catering to a wide range of interests, including academic, cultural, social, and special-interest groups.

Founded in 1913, the UWA Student Guild is one of the most active student organizations in Australia, providing support, advocacy, and services such as food outlets, study spaces, and events.

Cultural clubs such as the Multicultural Students' Association and faculty-based societies like the Blackstone Society (Law) and the Engineers Club (EWB UWA) foster networking and academic support.

UWA also has a rich tradition of student publications, including Pelican Magazine — the second-oldest student newspaper in the country.

Sports and traditions play a significant role in student life at UWA.

Through UWA Sport, the university offers state-of-the-art athletic facilities with opportunities across more than 30 sports, including rowing, rugby, soccer, and ultimate frisbee.

UWA is well known for inter-faculty and inter-university competitions, including the Western Series, in which it competes against other Western Australian universities.

The university also hosts important annual events such as PROSH — a satirical charity newspaper dating back to 1931 — and O-Week (Orientation Week), which welcomes new students with social events, campus tours, and club sign-ups.

Another cherished tradition is the Guild Ball, one of the most anticipated social events of the year, bringing students together for an evening of celebration.
