University of the Pacific, or UOP for short, began as California Wesleyan College in 1851 and holds the distinction of being California's first university. It is a research-focused private university. The School of Medicine, established in 1858, and the UOP Conservatory of Music, which opened its doors in 1878, were the first medical school and conservatory in the western United States. University of the Pacific currently offers students educational opportunities across more than 50 undergraduate and more than 40 graduate programs.
The university's main campus, the Stockton Campus, is located in Stockton — a small city situated between San Francisco, San Jose, and Sacramento — providing students with a safer environment.

University of the Pacific has a total of three campuses — Stockton, Sacramento, and San Francisco — all located in the state of California. All undergraduate courses are taught at the main Stockton Campus, while graduate courses are offered at the San Francisco and Sacramento campuses. The Stockton Campus, regarded as one of the most beautiful campuses on the East Coast of America, spans approximately 55 acres. The Calaveras River runs through the Stockton Campus, which is surrounded by historic buildings and green spaces.
The campus includes residence halls, common areas, and recreation centers available for student use.
The Stockton Campus, where undergraduate students study, features residence halls equipped with a variety of amenities. Students have the option of living in shared or single rooms according to their preferences. In addition, dining halls and restaurants are available on campus and in the residence halls to meet students' dining needs. Located in the heart of Stockton, UOP students can get around by bicycle or public transportation. The campus includes seven grass fields of varying sizes for sports such as rugby and soccer, 12 tennis courts, walking paths, and a fitness center.
Students can take advantage of these athletic facilities either by joining one of the 11 active sports clubs at University of the Pacific or by participating individually. There are also more than 150 student clubs that help students enrich their academic lives culturally. In their free time, students can attend theater performances, concerts, and shows organized by the university's performing arts clubs.
