The University of Maryland, College Park (UMD), founded in 1856 as the Maryland Agricultural College, is the flagship institution of the University System of Maryland and one of the nation's leading public research universities.

The University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) is located on its 1,340-acre main campus in College Park, Maryland, just a few miles from Washington, D.C. 

The main campus is divided into several key areas, including McKeldin Mall — the university's central green space surrounded by iconic buildings such as McKeldin Library and the Main Administration Building — as well as one of the largest academic shopping centres in the United States. 

The campus is also home to cutting-edge research centers such as the A. James Clark Engineering Building, the Iribe Center for Computer Science and Engineering, and the Brendan Iribe Center for Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality. 

UMD also boasts world-class athletic facilities including the Xfinity Center (home to the basketball teams) and Maryland Stadium (used for football and lacrosse).

The Discovery District, the university's 150-acre innovation hub, fosters collaboration among students, faculty, and businesses in fields such as cybersecurity, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence.
