Case Western Reserve University

Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) is mainly in Cleveland, Ohio. Its main campus sits in University Circle, one of the most culturally rich and educationally vibrant areas in the country.

The campus covers about 550 acres. On it you will find numerous academic buildings, research facilities, and residence halls. Cultural institutions share the campus as well, such as Severance Hall, home of the Cleveland Orchestra, and the Cleveland Museum of Art.

The main campus is divided into several key areas. These include the Quad, which holds many of the university's primary academic buildings, and North Residential Village, which houses undergraduate student residences.

CWRU's campus is also closely integrated with neighboring institutions such as Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, and the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. That gives students a wide range of research and professional development opportunities.

The Health Education Campus (HEC) is a state-of-the-art medical education facility. It is a collaboration between CWRU and Cleveland Clinic, and it is just a short distance from the main campus.

HEC includes Samson Pavilion, where students from CWRU's medicine, nursing, and dentistry programs learn in an interprofessional environment.

The university also operates the Squire Valleevue and Valley Ridge Farms, a 389-acre rural property. It is used for ecological research, fieldwork, and outdoor education.

The university is home to more than 200 student organizations. They cover a wide range of interests, from academic and cultural to social and recreational activities. 

You can join organizations such as Undergraduate Student Government (USG), or cultural groups like the Asian American Alliance and La Alianza, a Latinx student organization. Special interest clubs include SpartanTHON, a student-run dance marathon that benefits local children's hospitals. 

The university also places a strong emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation. Students take part in organizations such as LaunchNet and the CWRU Hacker Society, which offer networking and startup development opportunities. 

Athletics and traditions are an integral part of student life at CWRU. The university's athletic teams, known as the Spartans, compete in NCAA Division III as part of the University Athletic Association (UAA).

Popular sports include football, basketball, soccer, and track and field. One well-known tradition is the Hudson Relays, an annual relay race dating back to 1910. In it, student teams compete over a 26-mile course around campus.

Other notable events include Springfest, a music and entertainment festival with live performances and carnival-style attractions. Another is Thwing Study Over, a campus-wide study break during finals week with free food and activities.
