The university campus originally housed the Faculties of Business, Economics, Social Sciences, and Medicine. In 1920, the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Arts were added to the campus. In 1955, the Mathematics and Natural Sciences departments began offering instruction as a separate faculty. In 1980, the Faculties of Education and Special Education were added to the university campus.
Campus life at the university is lively and engaging. The Collegium Musicum and the Music Education Institute Communities offer a variety of events and programs for those looking to have fun and make music. The Studio Stage (Studio-Bühne) holds theater productions, film screenings, and experimental workshops and seminars each semester. Their productions are recognized as part of the university's broad cultural landscape. KölnCampus is a student radio broadcasting station. The editorial team is made up entirely of students, who also organize its daily programming.
