AP

Published:

AP (Advanced Placement) is a College Board program offering university-level courses + exams at high-school level. There are 40+ AP courses (Calculus, Biology, Physics, Computer Science, World History, English Lit, etc.); students take them during high school and sit standardised exams in May.

Each exam is scored 1-5; 4-5 grants university credit at 4,000+ US universities. Some accept 3 as well. One AP exam = one undergraduate course waiver = $5,000+ savings.

For Turkish students applying to US universities, AP scores are a major boost: they demonstrate academic capacity beyond SAT/TOEFL. Ivy League candidates typically take 5-8 APs. 2024 exam dates: 5-16 May.

Getting Ready for the AP

Understanding the AP format, scoring, and test dates early lets you plan a realistic preparation timeline. Register in good time, sit a practice test to find your baseline, and focus your study on the sections where you can gain the most.

Dream Uni's advisors guide you on how the AP fits your university applications, when to sit it, and how to prepare effectively. Book a free consultation to build your study plan.

Your AP result is one piece of a bigger picture that also includes your grades, personal statement, and references, so it helps to know exactly how much weight it carries for the courses you want. Dream Uni can tell you the scores your target universities expect, the best time of year to sit the AP, and whether a resit is worth it. With that clarity you can prepare efficiently and avoid spending time on sections that will not change your outcome.
