Scholarship Opportunities

University of Chicago scholarships and financial aid

Students who meet the admission requirements but have insufficient financial means should apply for financial support in addition to the school application. Students who do not apply for financial support while applying for school in their first year will lose the right to apply for financial support after being accepted to the school. Students who are eligible for financial support will have their school fees, accommodation, meals, books and materials, personal expenses and health insurance covered. Students applying for financial support are required to document and demonstrate their family's income status as required. Merit scholarships are also awarded to international students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, high participation in extracurricular activities, leadership qualities and a strong commitment to the community. All students who apply to the school will automatically be considered for all available merit scholarships and will be awarded those that are available.

Take a closer look at University of Chicago

The main campus of the University of Chicago, one of the must-visit campuses in America, covers an area of 87.8 hectares between Hyde Park and Woodlawn, 12 kilometers south of Chicago's city center. The buildings on the campus are positioned to surround six main courtyards and were designed by famous architects, especially Henry Ives Cobb, as examples of Gothic architectural style, modeled on the buildings at Oxford University. The University has 1 undergraduate college, 5 postgraduate research departments and 8 professional schools. In addition, the university has business schools in Hong Kong, London and downtown Chicago, as well as a Paris campus offering undergraduate and graduate studies. In 2010, it opened training centers in Beijing and in 2014 in New Delhi. The University of Chicago Library system includes six libraries containing 11 million volumes. The university's main library is the Regenstein Library, which contains one of the largest collections of printed volumes in the United States.

Campus Life

The University of Chicago has a special housing system for first-year undergraduate students. According to this accommodation system, there are 7 dormitories on campus and a total of 39 “households” within these dormitories. Approximately 70 students are assigned to each household. There is a rule for undergraduate students to stay in these dormitories for the first year and this rule will be extended to 2 years by 2023. For graduate students, there are 28 apartments on campus. There are more than 450 student clubs and 17 fraternities/sororities, reflecting students' common interests and cultural or religious backgrounds. All activities of these clubs, founded and managed by students, are funded by the University of Chicago Student Union with an annual budget of 2 million dollars. The achievements of some of the student clubs' activities have also gained fame outside the university. The Bowling Team, which has won 118 tournaments and 15 national championships, the MUN (Model United Nations) team, which has remained in the top 5 for more than 10 years, Doc Films, the longest-running university film society in the country, Off-Off Campus, the second oldest improvisational theater troupe in the country, and The Chicago Maroon, the student newspaper that has been published weekly since 1892, are the most important examples. In addition, the organizing committee of the Scavenger Hunt, which has been held every year in May since 1987, is also very famous.
