How to get into Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech)

If you want to apply to an undergraduate program at Tokyo Institute of Technology, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Completion of 12 years of primary and secondary education
  • A diploma with a high GPA
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma
  • Proof of English proficiency through scores on English language exams such as TOEFL or IELTS
  • Official transcripts listing the courses you took and the grades you earned throughout high school
  • Application fee

If you want to apply to a graduate program at Tokyo Institute of Technology, you must meet the following requirements:

  • A four-year bachelor's degree diploma
  • A high GPA
  • Proof of English proficiency through scores on English language exams such as TOEFL or IELTS
  • Official transcripts listing the courses you took and the grades you earned throughout your studies
  • Application fee

If you apply from abroad to the Department of International Development Engineering (IDE), you must take a written or oral examination. Please note that these exams are conducted in Japanese.

You must also take entrance examinations administered by the National Center for University Entrance Examinations and Tokyo Tech (Admissions Division).

The application fee for undergraduate departments is 17,000 JPY. The application fee for graduate departments is 30,000 JPY.

Tokyo Tech's main campus is in Ōokayama, on the border of Meguro and Ota, and its main entrance faces Ōokayama Station. The other campuses are in Suzukakedai and Tamachi. All three provide a comfortable environment for a distinctive educational experience. About 10,500 students study across the Ookayama, Suzukakedai, and Tamachi campuses. Half are enrolled in undergraduate programs, and half in master's and doctoral programs.

Campus Life

Every Tokyo Tech campus has classrooms and laboratories equipped with the latest technology. You will also find cafes and restaurants, stores, libraries with extensive academic collections, study lounges, and sports facilities. Dormitories where you can stay are available on campus.

The Ookayama Campus sits in the heart of Tokyo and is home to most of the school's undergraduate students. From there you can reach all major transportation hubs in and around the metropolis easily. The Suzukakedai Campus sits on the border of Tokyo and Yokohama, and it houses most of the institute's research centers, laboratories, and units. The Tamachi Campus is the institute's lifelong learning center. It occupies a prime location in the center of Tokyo and also houses the Tokyo Tech-affiliated high school.
