UT Austin has a large main campus covering 431 acres in the heart of downtown Austin.
The Main Campus holds academic buildings, research centers, libraries, museums, and student residence halls. It is the center of academic and student life at the university.
At its center rises the 307-meter UT Tower, a symbol of the university's long history and academic strength.
The campus also includes the J.J. Pickle Research Campus (PRC), a 475-acre facility north of Austin. It is dedicated to the most advanced scientific research in fields such as aerospace and mechanical engineering, energy, and materials science.
This research center houses facilities such as the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC). TACC operates some of the world's most powerful supercomputers and contributes to breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, healthcare, and climate modeling.

The Marine Science Institute (UTMSI) sits in Port Aransas on the Gulf of Mexico. It is Texas's oldest marine research facility, and it does significant work on coastal ecology, fisheries, and ocean ecosystems.
UT Austin also runs the Dell Medical School, founded in 2013, which works to transform healthcare through innovative research and education. The university's McDonald Observatory in West Texas is one of the world's leading astronomical research facilities.
