The Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover, more often referred to simply as the Leibniz University Hannover, a member of TU9, an association of the largest and most notable German Institutes of Technology, is a public research university that can be found in the city of Hannover, Germany. The university was named after the famous polymath Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, and it is one of the most prestigious and oldest institutions of higher learning in Germany in the fields of science and technology.

Since its establishment in 1831 as the Higher Trade School of Hannover, the institution has undergone several phases of growth as well as a number of name changes over the course of its history. In 2006, it was decided to commemorate Leibniz by naming the building after him in recognition of the extensive contributions that he made to a variety of academic subjects, ranging from philosophy to mathematics, as well as his strong relationship to the city of Hannover.

How to get into Leibniz Universität Hannover

Leibniz University Hannover offers“Preparation courses ("Vorkurse") and introductory sessions” for international students to help them gain proficiency in German language.

Prospective international students who wish to apply to undergraduate programs offered by the Leibniz University Hannover must meet the admission requirements set out below.

  • Successful Completion of 12 Years of Basic Education
  • 4-Year High School Diploma
    • Please note that students holding a high school diploma from a Turkish institution are required to sit the standardized test of Higher Education Foundations Examination (YKS) administered by OSYM in order to document that you have been assigned a place at a university in Turkey. Your exam results should indicate the name of the university you’ve been assigned to, the faculty, the program as well as the type of points.
  • High Grade Point Average
    or
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
    or
  • European Baccalaureate Diploma
  • If you have a US high school diploma, you are required to submit your high school diploma including an Overview of subjects and grades from grade 9 to 12 stating your cumulative GPA (unweighted).
    • Please note that direct admission is possible only if you have passed AP exams and achieved specific results.
  • If you have a General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level, Advanced Subsidiary Level, or International Advanced Level), you are required to submit your official General Certificate of Education, showing all of your final AS and A Level results.
    • Please note that predicted grades issued by your school are not accepted.
  • Certificate in German Proficiency
    • Certificate in German proficiency received through internationally recognized proficiency tests such as TestDaF, Telc, DSH, Goethe-Zertifikat.
  • Official transcripts of the courses taken by the applicant in throughout high school education
  • In case you don’t qualify for direct admission, your secondary education certificate may qualify you for the Studienkolleg (preparatory course) and the Feststellungsprüfung (university qualification exam).

Prospective international students who wish to apply for graduate programs offered by Leibniz University Hannover must meet the admission requirements outlined below.
