VSB – Technical University of Ostrava

VSB - Technical University of Ostrava (VŠB-TUO) is located on a large, modern campus in the Poruba district of Ostrava. One of the largest university campuses in the Czech Republic, the campus provides students with a comprehensive academic, research, and living environment.

The main campus is home to most of the university's faculties, including the Faculty of Mining and Geology, the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, the Faculty of Civil Engineering, and the Faculty of Safety Engineering. One of the most influential groups is the Student Union (Studentská unie VŠB-TUO), which organizes events, represents student interests, and fosters a strong sense of community. Technical students can join professional organizations such as IAESTE for international internships, or BEST (Board of European Students of Technology), which organizes engineering competitions, workshops, and hackathons.

The university is known for its vibrant traditions and major student events. One of the most famous is Majáles Ostrava, a major student festival featuring concerts, performances, and a parade that brings together students from across the city. Another significant event is Hornické dny (Mining Days), a traditional celebration honoring the university's mining heritage, featuring historic costumes, parades, and festivities. Researchers' Night is another highlight, where students and researchers showcase their work to the public through interactive science exhibitions and experiments.

The university also hosts career fairs, sports tournaments, and technology hackathons, helping students develop their skills and build industry connections.
