Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU)

The Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU) operates across multiple campuses in the heart of Prague, each serving its three faculties. The campuses are strategically located in the city's historic center, providing students with a vibrant and inspiring cultural environment. AMU's main buildings are situated in the Malá Strana and Old Town districts, where students have access to state-of-the-art facilities including modern studios, theaters, concert halls, and screening rooms. Each faculty has its own dedicated campus. DAMU is located in a complex on Karlova Street near Old Town Square and features multiple performance spaces, rehearsal studios, and the dedicated DISK Theatre, where students stage public productions. FAMU is situated along the Vltava River and offers cutting-edge filmmaking facilities, screening rooms, and editing suites. HAMU is housed in the Lichtenstein Palace next to Charles Bridge, where students train in acoustically enhanced concert halls and practice rooms.

Each faculty is home to various student organizations and clubs that promote creativity, collaboration, and networking. Students actively participate in artistic collectives, film clubs, theater societies, and music groups that perform both at AMU's venues and in Prague's broader cultural landscape. DAMU students in particular take part in the DISK Theatre, where they stage professional-level productions, while FAMU students collaborate on film projects and frequently present their work at international festivals. HAMU students have access to prestigious performance opportunities at the Lichtenstein Palace, and may participate in chamber music ensembles, orchestras, and dance performances. Many students also participate in the Student Council, which advocates for student needs, organizes events, and fosters a sense of community across the faculties. AMU is known for its vibrant calendar of student-led events, festivals, and traditions. Among the most notable of these is FAMUFEST, an annual film festival where student films are screened and attract the attention of industry professionals. DAMU students celebrate the Zlomvaz festival, a major theater event at which young actors, directors, and playwrights showcase their work. HAMU students participate in a variety of concerts and dance performances, some held at historic Prague venues. Beyond these major events, AMU fosters a culture of informal student gatherings, discussions, and artistic experimentation, making the academy a hub for emerging talent.
