Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU)

The Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU) runs several campuses in the heart of Prague, serving its three faculties. They stand in the city's historic center, so you study in a vibrant and inspiring cultural environment. The main buildings are in the Malá Strana and Old Town districts. There you have access to state-of-the-art facilities, including modern studios, theaters, concert halls, and screening rooms. Each faculty has its own dedicated campus. DAMU occupies a complex on Karlova Street near Old Town Square.

It holds several performance spaces, rehearsal studios, and the dedicated DISK Theatre, where students stage public productions. FAMU sits along the Vltava River and offers cutting-edge filmmaking facilities, screening rooms, and editing suites. HAMU is housed in the Lichtenstein Palace next to Charles Bridge. There you train in acoustically enhanced concert halls and practice rooms.

Each faculty is home to student organizations and clubs that promote creativity, collaboration, and networking. Students take an active part in artistic collectives, film clubs, theater societies, and music groups. These groups perform at AMU's venues and across Prague's broader cultural landscape. DAMU students in particular work at the DISK Theatre, where they stage professional-level productions.

FAMU students collaborate on film projects and often present their work at international festivals. At HAMU, you have access to prestigious performance opportunities at the Lichtenstein Palace. You may also join chamber music ensembles, orchestras, and dance performances. Many students also take part in the Student Council, which advocates for student needs, organizes events, and fosters a sense of community across the faculties. AMU is known for its vibrant calendar of student-led events, festivals, and traditions.

One of the most notable is FAMUFEST, an annual film festival that screens student films and draws the attention of industry professionals. DAMU students celebrate Zlomvaz, a major theater festival where young actors, directors, and playwrights showcase their work. HAMU students take part in a range of concerts and dance performances, some of them at historic Prague venues. Beyond these major events, AMU fosters a culture of informal student gatherings, discussion, and artistic experimentation. This makes the academy a hub for emerging talent.
