Queen's University

Queen's University, located in Kingston, Ontario, operates across multiple campuses. The university's main campus, which spans approximately 100 acres, is situated near the shores of Lake Ontario, providing a picturesque setting for academic and extracurricular activities. This campus is home to most of the university's faculties, administrative buildings, student residences, and recreational facilities.

Notable buildings on the main campus include Grant Hall, a historic building used for convocation ceremonies and other major university events; the Stauffer Library, one of the largest academic libraries in Canada; and the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, a modern facility that hosts a variety of cultural and artistic events. The main campus also features a number of green spaces, including Commonwealth Square and the Queen's University Observatory. The university's medical facilities are located at Kingston Health Sciences Centre, which includes Kingston General Hospital.

This facility serves as the primary teaching hospital for the Queen's University Faculty of Health Sciences. Additionally, Queen's University has a biological field station, the Queen's University Biological Station, located on the shores of Lake Opinicon, which provides a unique natural environment for research and teaching in the biological sciences.

The Alma Mater Society (AMS), one of Canada's oldest undergraduate student governments, oversees more than 200 student clubs and organizations covering academic, cultural, entertainment, and social interests. The AMS also runs several businesses and services on campus, including a food court, a pub, and a variety of retail outlets. Queen's University is known for its strong school spirit and unique traditions.

One of the most well-known is Homecoming, a weekend event held each year that draws alumni back to campus for a variety of activities, including a football game, concerts, and social gatherings. Another important tradition is the annual Queen's Semi-Formal, a major social event for students. The university's unique tricolor — red, gold, and blue — and mascot, the Golden Gaels, are also important symbols of school pride.

Queen's University has a strong athletic program, with its varsity teams, known as the Queen's Gaels, competing in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and U Sports conferences. The campus also offers a variety of recreational sports and fitness facilities through the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC), which includes a gym, swimming pool, squash courts, and various fitness classes. Students are also encouraged to take advantage of Kingston's unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, including its proximity to the Thousand Islands and the St. Lawrence River.
