The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) overview

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was officially established in 1963 as a public research university. It is the second-oldest university in the region. Its emblem is the fenghuang, a legendary Chinese bird regarded as the Bird of the South since the Han Dynasty. The bird stands for nobility, beauty, loyalty, and magnificence. The university's colors are purple and gold, representing commitment, loyalty, perseverance, and determination, respectively.

CUHK is the only university in Hong Kong that runs a college system. Every full-time undergraduate is affiliated with one of nine colleges. The student body draws on over 70 different nationalities, so CUHK is a large and internationally diverse community of high-caliber students and professionals. The university's motto is "In pursuit of learning, to attain the heights of excellence and virtue." The saying is attributed to Confucius.

One of the university's core missions is to help preserve, create, apply, and spread knowledge. It does this through teaching, research, and public service across a broad range of disciplines. To foster a diverse and inclusive environment for everyone, CUHK organizes events, symposiums, and more. These are meant to ensure that every individual on campus can take an active part.
