Officially established in 1963, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a public research university. The second-oldest university in the region, the institution's emblem is the fenghuang — a legendary Chinese bird regarded as the Bird of the South since the Han Dynasty — symbolizing nobility, beauty, loyalty, and magnificence. The university's colors are purple and gold, representing commitment, loyalty, perseverance, and determination, respectively.
CUHK is the only university in Hong Kong that operates a college system. All full-time undergraduate students are affiliated with one of nine colleges. Home to students from over 70 different nationalities, CUHK is a large and internationally diverse community of high-caliber students and professionals. The university's motto is "In pursuit of learning, to attain the heights of excellence and virtue." This saying is attributed to Confucius.

How to get into The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)
Applicants wishing to apply to undergraduate programs offered by The Chinese University of Hong Kong must meet the following requirements:
- Completion of 12 years of primary and secondary education
- High-GPA diploma
- Official transcripts and copies of degree qualification certificates
- International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma
- English proficiency certificate obtained through recognized exams such as TOEFL or IELTS
- SAT / ACT and AP results
Applicants wishing to apply to graduate programs offered by The Chinese University of Hong Kong must meet the following requirements:
- 4-year bachelor's degree diploma
- High GPA
- English proficiency certificate obtained through recognized exams such as TOEFL or IELTS
- Official transcripts listing the courses taken and grades received throughout the applicant's education
- GRE/GMAT scores may be required to meet program admission requirements.
- Certificates supporting professional/academic achievements
The Putonghua (Mandarin) Daytime Intensive Programmes is a certified language training program in which the school offers Chinese language instruction to its students. Classes are held on the Shatin Campus.
You must obtain a student visa / entry permit to study in Hong Kong. Copies of visas, passports, and entry permits are required.
Applicants will be assessed on the basis of their educational background and academic and non-academic achievements. If invited to an interview, their performance in the interview will also be taken into consideration.
The application fee is HKD 450.

The university has an extensive on-campus accommodation portfolio that offers eligible students the option of a residential college experience.
The university campus has a range of cafes and restaurants, comfortably designed dormitories and residence halls, sports facilities, and classrooms and workshops to meet all student needs. The university campus provides you with a living environment. In the university residence halls, there are resident tutors to look after students' physical and mental well-being and provide necessary support to hall residents. You can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner prepared with fresh daily ingredients at more than 30 cafes and restaurants on campus. There is also a vegetarian-only restaurant on campus. Halal food can be found at a restaurant called "Kabab" in the Li Wai Chun Building.
