How to get into Technische Universität Wien

If you are an international student applying to an undergraduate program, Vienna University requires you to take a program called the "Foundation Program" before you begin your bachelor's degree studies. It prepares students for life in higher education. The admission requirements for this program are as follows.

  • A 4-year high school diploma or, if you have one, an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma
  • Admission through the higher education entrance exam administered by OSYM to a university in Turkey that offers a four-year bachelor's degree
  • English Proficiency Certificate (an English proficiency certificate earned with scores from exams such as TOEFL or IELTS)
  • German Proficiency Certificate (a German proficiency certificate earned with scores from exams such as TestDaF, telc, or Goethe-Zertifikat)
  • Official transcript documents listing the courses you took and the grades you received during secondary education

If you want to apply to a graduate program offered by Vienna University, you must meet the following requirements.

  • Graduation from a university recognized by Vienna University that offers a four-year bachelor's degree education
  • Completion of at least 180 ECTS credits during your undergraduate study
  • English Proficiency Certificate (an English proficiency certificate earned with scores from exams such as TOEFL or IELTS)
  • German Proficiency Certificate (a German proficiency certificate earned with scores from exams such as TestDaF, telc, or Goethe-Zertifikat)
  • GRE/GMAT scores, which are required depending on the department-specific admission requirements.

Take a closer look at Technische Universität Wien

Most of the buildings where Vienna University of Technology operates are in the 4th district of Vienna, Karlsplatz, in the heart of the city. The university buildings are concentrated in 4 locations. The Karlsplatz Campus houses the architecture and civil engineering departments and most of the university administration. Getreidemarkt houses the chemistry and mechanical engineering departments. Gußhaus houses the electrical engineering, information technology, and computer science departments.

Freihaus houses the technical physics and technical mathematics departments as well as the university library. The university also has an atom institute and a science center with specialized mechanical engineering laboratories and high-performance computers. Its Aspanggründe campus houses the hydraulic engineering laboratory and the Institute of Building Materials and Building Physics.

Campus Life

As an urban university in the center of Vienna, the capital of Austria, Vienna University of Technology sits at the country's political, cultural, and educational heart. Landmarks such as St. Stephen's Cathedral, the Hofburg Palace, and the Sisi Museum testify to the country's artistic history. Art is present at another level here: architectural works by representatives of the Romanesque, Baroque, and Art Nouveau movements stand on virtually every corner. Vienna has been home to some of the most successful musicians in history, including Beethoven and Mozart.

True to that artistic tradition, the city hosts concerts, musicals, theater performances, operas, and festivals every year. Schönbrunn Palace, the Vienna Museum of Art History, the Belvedere Museum, the Hofburg, the Schönbrunn Gardens, and the Albertina are also must-see places in Vienna.
