Take a closer look at Massey University
Massey University operates across three campuses: Auckland, Wellington, and Manawatū. The university began at the Turitea campus in Palmerston North, which hosts about 9,000 students each year. Turitea holds Massey University's main administrative units, along with the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the College of Sciences, and Massey Business School. New Zealand's only School of Veterinary Science is also at Turitea. The Auckland Campus in Albany, on Auckland's North Shore, has grown quickly since 1993.
The College of Sciences and Massey Business School are the two largest colleges on that campus. The College of Sciences is home to the New Zealand Institute for Advanced Study. About 7,000 students study at the Auckland Campus. The Wellington Campus was created through the merger with Wellington Polytechnic, approved by the New Zealand Government and completed in 1999. Wellington Polytechnic's history goes back to 1886, when the Wellington School of Design was established.
It was renamed Wellington Technical School in 1891, and in 1963 it split into Wellington Polytechnic and Wellington High School. The university's departments in arts, design, health, nursing, music, creative media, and communications operate from this campus.
Campus life at Massey University is lively and active. Each of the three campuses has its own student association, and the Federation of Massey University Student Associations represents them all. Each association organizes activities and supports its members. It arranges student events, speaks up on student issues, manages student facilities, and assists affiliated student clubs and societies. The Palmerston North branch also runs Radio Control, a student radio station on the Turitea Campus. Sport plays a major role at Massey University.
The university has 6 sports complexes, where you can take part in activities across virtually every sport. It is also home to more than 200 student clubs and societies covering a wide range of interests. Additionally, must-see attractions in Palmerston North include the Victoria Esplanade Gardens, the Te Manawa Museum of Art, Science and Heritage, and the New Zealand Rugby Museum. In Auckland, they include the Sky Tower, Auckland Museum, Mount Eden, and Tiritiri Matangi and Rangitoto Islands.
In Wellington, they include Te Papa Tongarewa Museum of New Zealand, the ZEALANDIA ecosanctuary, Mount Victoria, and the Wellington Botanic Garden.
