Universidad de Chile is a research-focused public university established on November 19, 1842, in Santiago, the capital of Chile. As the successor to the former Real Universidad de San Felipe, founded in 1738, and the oldest university in the country, Universidad de Chile has produced Nobel Prize-winning writers such as Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral, and is widely regarded as one of the finest universities not only in Chile but across all of Latin America, thanks to its leadership in science, technology, the social sciences, and the humanities.
