Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi

Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi is a public university founded in 1975 in Samsun, Turkey. The university takes its name from the date Mustafa Kemal Atatürk arrived in Samsun to launch the War of Independence. Its foundations were laid with the Samsun Faculty of Medicine, which was originally affiliated with Hacettepe University as the institution's first faculty; in 1973 it was decided to separate it from Hacettepe University and attach it to Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi, followed by the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Faculty of Agriculture.

Ranked among Turkey's most successful universities in national and international rankings, Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi today provides higher education opportunities to approximately 50,000 students through 19 faculties, 1 college, 1 state conservatory, 12 vocational schools, and 2 institutes.

Some undergraduate programs at Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi are taught in English; accordingly, prospective students are first required to take a placement and proficiency exam, and based on their score they may either proceed directly to undergraduate study or begin a preparatory program. In addition, students who have achieved sufficient scores on proficiency exams such as TOEFL i-BT, FCE, CAE, PTE Academic, or YDS and YÖKDİL administered by ÖSYM may apply for an exemption from the preparatory program.
