Mahidol University is an autonomous research institution in Thailand. With roots dating back to the founding of Siriraj Hospital in 1888, it is the oldest higher education institution in Thailand, having awarded the country’s first medical degree in 1893. Mahidol University is extremely selective in its admissions — as of 2016, it had an acceptance rate of just 0.4% for Medicine. Taking shape as the University of Medical Sciences in 1943, Mahidol was recognized as the country’s fourth state university.
In 2006, the university ranked 322nd in the world and 3rd in Thailand according to the QS World University Rankings. According to Time magazine, it also ranked among the top 400 universities in the world in 2012, while placing first in Thailand.

How to get into Mahidol University
International prospective students wishing to enroll in undergraduate programs offered by Mahidol University must meet the following criteria:
- Possession of an IB Diploma with a minimum score of 24 points
- IB Diploma Course Results
- Have passed at least 5 courses at standard and higher levels with a grade of 4 or above
- Have graduated from or be currently enrolled in the final year of an international school in Thailand, in a science and mathematics program or equivalent accredited by the Thai Ministry of Education
- Language proficiency documents
- Application fee
- An applicant holding an IGCSE, GCSE, or GCE qualification obtained before 2017 must have a minimum grade of C in at least 5 different subjects at IGCSE, GCSE, or GCE “O” level.
International prospective students wishing to enroll in graduate programs offered by Mahidol University must meet the following criteria:
- University degree or other diplomas if applicable
- Transcript documents
- Resume
- Language proficiency documents
- Letter of recommendation
- Statement of purpose
- GRE/GMAT score depending on the department
