Kocaeli Üniversitesi

Kocaeli Üniversitesi is a public university founded in 1976 in the province of Kocaeli, Turkey. Originally established under the name Kocaeli State Engineering and Architecture Academy, it later operated as Kocaeli Faculty of Engineering under Yıldız Technical University before gaining university status in 1992. Although the August 17, 1999 earthquake — considered one of the worst disasters of the century — destroyed three-quarters of its physical assets, the university managed to start that same academic year with only a one-month delay.

After relocating to its new campus, named Umuttepe, in 2004, Kocaeli Üniversitesi today provides higher education to approximately 60,000 students across 12 campuses — including the Umuttepe Campus, Arslanbey Campus, Hereke Campus, Karamürsel Campus, Köseköy Campus, Körfez Campus, Kandıra Campus, Uzunçiftlik Campus, Derbent Campus, Şehit Astsb. Ömer Halis Demir Campus, Gölcük Campus, and Anıtpark Campus — through 18 faculties, 16 vocational schools, 3 colleges, 4 institutes, and 13 research and application centers.

Certain undergraduate programs at Kocaeli Üniversitesi are taught in English, German, or French. Prospective students are first required to take a placement and proficiency exam, and based on their scores may either transition directly to their undergraduate program or begin a preparatory program. Additionally, students who have achieved a sufficient score on exams such as TOEFL i-BT for English, PNDS for German, or DALF for French, or ÖSYM-administered exams such as YDS or YÖKDİL, may apply for a preparatory program exemption.

Prospective students who wish to apply to the undergraduate programs offered by Kocaeli Üniversitesi must meet the following admission requirements.

For Turkish Students:

• High School Diploma
• Minimum YKS Base Score: 199.80705
• Maximum YKS Base Score: 422.11921

For International Students:

• SAT, ACT, Abitur, or Matura Score
  or
• International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or GCE A-Level Certificate
  or
• Kocaeli University International Student Exam (KOÜYÖS) Score
• Turkish Language Proficiency Certificate

For Preparatory Program Exemption:

• A sufficient score on TOEFL i-BT for English, PNDS for German, or DALF for French, or ÖSYM-administered exams such as YDS or YÖKDİL
