Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi began its educational life in 1911 under the name “Kondüktör Mekteb-i Âlisi” with the aim of training technicians to undertake tasks such as the construction of railways, bridges, and roads for the Ottoman Empire, and attained university status in 1982. YTÜ has two main campuses in Istanbul's Yıldız and Davutpaşa neighborhoods and provides educational opportunities to more than 26,000 students through 11 faculties, 46 departments, and 2 institutes.
YTÜ students may qualify to study abroad for a portion of their university education by participating in the Farabi, Erasmus, Mevlâna, and FreeMover exchange programs.
