Although the university’s official founding date is March 22, 1911, its roots can be traced back to the Polytechnic Academy and the School of Medicine and Surgery established in 1836. How to get into Universidade do Porto
Universidade do Porto offers a preparatory program called the “Foundation Year Programme in Portuguese Language” to help students who are new to university education prepare for higher education and develop proficiency in Portuguese.
In addition, international students wishing to apply to undergraduate programs offered by Universidade do Porto must meet the following requirements.
- Completion of 12 Years of Basic Education
- 4-Year High School Diploma
- A Turkish High School Diploma must be evaluated and officially recognized by the relevant authorities in Portugal and by Universidade do Porto.
- Strong GPA
- Having sat for the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) administered by OSYM in Turkey and been accepted to a university in Turkey offering a 4-year bachelor’s degree
or - International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
or - European Baccalaureate (EB) Diploma
- English Proficiency Certificate
- An English proficiency certificate obtained through internationally recognized exams such as IELTS, TOEFL iBT, or PTE Academic
- Portuguese Proficiency Certificate
- A Portuguese proficiency certificate obtained through exams that set the standard specifically for European Portuguese, such as CAPLE and CAPLE-BRAS
International students wishing to apply to graduate programs offered by Universidade do Porto must meet the following admission requirements.
- 4-Year Bachelor’s Degree Diploma
- Strong GPA
- Completion of at least 180 ECTS credits during undergraduate study
- Official transcripts listing the courses taken and grades received during undergraduate study
- English Proficiency Certificate
- An English proficiency certificate obtained through internationally recognized exams such as IELTS, TOEFL iBT, or PTE Academic
- Portuguese Proficiency Certificate
- A Portuguese proficiency certificate obtained through exams that set the standard specifically for European Portuguese, such as CAPLE and CAPLE-BRAS
- GRE/GMAT scores may be required based on the specific admission requirements of the program being applied to
